Mormon Wellness Project: 020: Hugh B. Brown: Another Man Standing Tall

This episode is the second in a series on race and the priesthood highlighting heroes of Mormon history. Their views were unwelcome at the time they stood up to powerful forces in the Mormon leadership. These man should be lauded because all the things they proposed are accepted, valued and praised by the present day leadership and membership of the LDS church. But way back when, it took tremendous courage to say the things they said and do the things they did.  In this episode Wendy discusses how an attempted Coup by Brown came close to ending the priesthood ban for blacks a decade earlier than when it finally happened in 1978. She also talks about “Mormon Doctrine” by McConkie and how it has affected generations of Mormons.
